Looking for a unique and practical item for your home?
This small pan might be it!
It was created by a village in Botswana that provides fair trade and living support for local community members. The products are made out of leaves from a Makalani Palm trees that are torn into long thread-like lengths and then naturally dyed. The natural dyes are gathered through a variety of plants, which are then processed by pounding in a mortar and pestle and then soak overnight in hot water. The final steps are then to boil the dyes and add the palm leaf strands in each color. Once dried, the weaving process begins, which can be done in a few different ways, but all are equally impressive, especially with the patterns and designs you find. The item can be used for simply a decoration or storage or whatever your heart desires!
